Harri Musselle wins Legends Rookie Championship 2024
In a thrilling finale at Oulton Park, 17-year-old Harri Musselle triumphed to become the 2024 Rookie Champion, securing his spot as one of UK motorsport’s brightest rising stars. The weekend was nothing short of extraordinary—a true test of courage and skill, with fierce winds and relentless rain turning every lap into an exhilarating adventure. For Harri, it was the culmination of a year filled with ups, downs, and unforgettable moments.
Harri entered the final weekend with a solid 400-point lead over rival Eric Boulton. Despite his advantage, the unpredictable Cheshire weather turned the circuit into a slick battleground, testing every bit of his skill. In the first heat, rainy conditions caused Harri to spin, slipping down to 23rd. But he wasn’t ready to give up. With focus and finesse, he fought back, finishing 19th and keeping himself just within reach of the points he needed.
The second heat was all or nothing. Harri raced his heart out, climbing to a crucial 12th-place finish, one spot behind Boulton. But just when it seemed like the title was his, a technical glitch meant he was docked 50 points—keeping the pressure on for the final race.
The championship came down to one last showdown. As the cars launched off the starting line, the rain-soaked track claimed three drivers in the first turn—Boulton among them. Suddenly, the path was clear for Harri to secure the Rookie title. Though it wasn’t the climactic duel everyone hoped for, it was enough. Harri crossed the line and knew he had done it—he was the Rookie Champion.
The celebration was pure joy. His father, Paul Musselle, was the first to reach him, pride lighting up his face. They embraced, father and son, celebrating a dream come true. With family by his side, the scene was full of laughter, hugs, and the realisation of what they had all achieved together. After a season of hard work, this moment belonged to all of them.
“This means so much to me—a mix of relief, excitement, and happiness. The Mickel Motorsport and Giggabox teams have worked so hard to give me this chance, and I’m so grateful for their support and training. It was challenging with the changing weather, but we managed the car well, and I felt more confident during the dry spells. I’m thrilled to have achieved my ultimate goal to have proved myself in the championship.” – Harri, reflecting on the weekend.
Speaking about the result, Mickel Motorsport Team Principal and multiple National and World Legends Champion, John Mickel said:
“It’s a great achievement for Harri after a lot of hard work by him and his Mickel Motorsport Crew. To be honest, when Harri first joined the team I was unsure because he’d never driven anything before – let alone a Legend, which are really tricky to drive. But he’s worked hard both on and off the track and this is his reward. He’s done a great job!”
For Harri, winning the Rookie Championship was the reward for his sheer determination and countless hours spent practicing. Surrounded by his family and team, the atmosphere buzzed with celebration as they shared in the joy of this achievement. Through a season of highs, lows, and hard-won victories, Harri was able to achieve what he set out to do. Still, after an electric weekend, he knew this was only the beginning.
“I’m so thankful to everyone around me who made this possible: Mickel Motorsport and Giggabox, my family, Genistar, and HTM Authorising Services. I dedicate this weekend to Rob at HTM. Thank you for all the support mate. I couldn’t do it without them. I’m so excited to have proved I could get where I wanted to go & have the opportunity to advance my career now. I’ve got so much ahead now we’re just getting started” – Harri Musselle, Legends 2024 Rookie Champion.
